At the end of July, at the Maoping Port, three foreign-related cruise ships from Chongqing were lined up and docked in the harbor. "The cable is connected so you just need scan the QR code on the shore power box and apply for electricity." Mo Jia, the employee of the Yangtze River Three Gorges Shore Power Operation Service Co., Ltd., explained the situation and took the toolbox out of the cabin.
"Since April last year, the Maoping Port has completed the construction of green shore power project." Mo Jia said that in the past, ships had to rely on diesel oil to generate electricity during their berthing in the port to maintain the basic living needs of tourists on board, which was costly, noisy, generated much waste gas and serious pollution. After using shore power, there is no black smoke and no noise, which is not only environmentally friendly but also improves the quality of travel.
In the harbor, each cruise ship has a shore power box beside it, from which the "energy" that it needs is obtained. Since the trial operation of shore power, it has been connected to nearly 450 ships, providing 1.88 million kWh of electricity, saving 7.2 million yuan of energy cost every year. The cost of energy saving will be about 15 million yuan per year after the coastal power coverage in Yichang River Basin is realized.
"Zero emission, zero fuel consumption and zero noise" have made Maoping Harbor a beautiful scene with water and sky all in one. Behind this is the unremitting exploration of developing green shipping with multi-party cooperation under the background of "no standards, no codes" .
Yichang is prosperous due to water. Each year, about 50,000 ships pass through the Yichang segment of the Yangtze River, and need to wait for the lock at the anchorage within the territory. Only at the Linjiangping anchorage, it has nearly 200 ships are waiting for the lock everyday, with an average waiting time of about 5 days. The subsequent pollution problem of ships has made the golden waterway less attractive.
The Yichang Free Trade Zone fully supports enterprises in the jurisdiction to participate in the construction of shore power facilities, promote the use of shore power during the port and waiting for lock of ships in the Yangtze River, reduce fuel use, escorting the green development of the Yangtze River shipping.
Up to now, all of the 66 operational terminals, except the dangerous chemical terminals in Yichang, have the shore power supply capacity. A vibrant golden waterway is building a sample of Yichang green navigation in a vigorous manner. Five industry standards and fourteen enterprise standards for port shore power construction have been launched one after another. The safety, reliability and convenience of shore power technology equipment have provided typical experiences that can be promoted for port shore power construction along the Yangtze River, attracting a large number of people at home and abroad to come to study.
“After the normal operation of the port and the anchorage for the lock in Yichang, it is expected that the annual replacement of electric energy will be about 25 million kWh and the reduction of diesel consumption by more than 5,000 tons.” Rong Yanhai, Director of the marketing department of State Grid Yichang Power Supply Company, said in the next step, Yichang will steadily promote the construction of shore power facilities and the transformation of marine shore power interfaces to achieve full coverage of shore power along the Yangtze River in Yichang.
