On October 18th, the overseas students from theChina Three Gorges Universityvisited some enterprises in Yichang. “How isthe effectiveness of anesthetic medicinetested?” “How is the automatic craft applied in the process of piano production?” Maung Myint Soe, the Burmese boywalking in the headof the line raised his questions to the working staff in Chinese from time to time. His Chinese name is Min Suoand he is studying atthe College of Electric Engineering and New Energy, CTGU.

One year ago,Min Suo arrived at Yichang, knowingnothing about Chinese. In order to learn Chinese well, he spent two hours every day reading Chinese poetry aloud in his accommodation to enlargehis vocabulary and enrich the sense ofspeaking Chinese. With great efforts, he improved his Chinese greatly. On October 2nd, Min Suo, spoke fluently on the 95th Anniversary of CTGU and the 40th Anniversary of Undergraduate Education as the host of the party, aswas a eye-catchingpart of the party. He said “I did feel a little bit nervous, but I was much more excited and glad that the party had left me a good memory.”

Min Suo and several overseas students recited the poem Thinking of You, written by SuShi on the 2018 Dragon Boat Festival and the Third Poetry Recitation Contest of Yichang. “‘Man has grief and joy, parting and reunion; The moon has foul weather and fair, waxing and waning, in this since ever there has been no perfection.’ I was deeply touched by the feelings it conveys.” He said “The poetry is pleasant to my ears and it reminds me of my friends and families. I miss them so much.” He then talked about the poetry Homesicknesswritten by the poet Yu Guangzhong. Though studying in a foreign country made him homesick, he is trying to adapt to his life in China to leave a good memory here.

Having stayed in Yichang for oneyear, Min Suo has been tomany scenic attractions of Yichang includingthe Three Gorges Dam and the Three Gorges Tribe Scenic Spot. He exclaimed: “The scenery is really wonderful!” He is also fascinated withthe foodsofYichang: “The watermelons and citruses here are tasty and cheap. They are rare delicacies in my hometown.” He plans to composea Chinese song Welcome to Yichangnext year to depictthe beauty of Yichang.

Staying in Yichang, a foreign city far away from his motherland, Min Suo is fond of the humanistic atmosphere of the China Three Gorges University, and he also prefers to explore the politics and history of the city. In the past 40 years, Yichang has changed a lot since the reform and opening up. Although he has stayed here for only one year, he is sensitive about the changes that have happened. He said: “Yichang has done a really good job in both the development of the city or in cultural tourism. I suppose, more efforts needs to be done in the future to promote Yichang nationwide and in the world, so that more people will know it and bring in more betterthings to facilitatethe development of Yichang towards a higherlevel. ”
