Being Forever Friends
2015-11-09 08:59:48

When I was in senior high school, my English teacher, who has a lot of foreign friends, told us that making a new foreign friends is like turning to a new page of a book ,which broadens your horizon and enriches your life. Not until I entered college and made friends with some foreigners did I realize the true meaning of her words.

Being a English major at CTGU, I do not want to miss any chance of communicating with native speakers. Fortunately ,English Village ,where all the foreign teachers will come when activity is held every Thursday ,provides me chances to meet foreigners. At that place ,i made friends with Pamala and halle. Then ,by the introduction of Pamala, I became friends with Mrs. jones.

  My best teacher and friends---Pamala

Pamala is a Puerto rican, whose first language is Spanish  and second language is English. Being one of the few foreigners who sticks to taking part in activities with students, she is very kind and of great help to my progress of oral English. The first time I met her, I asked her question about how to pronounce some consonants, vowels, And words accurately, like “‘thank you “”usual” etc. Which are pronounced wrongly by most of the Chinese  people .Besides, I told her that I could not distinguish between “n”and “l”, which is also a problem for some students from Hubei province. Being really kind and patient, she told me the methods of pronouncing this words and basis of English and pronounced it slowly so that I could watch and observe the move of her mouth and  tongue and chin. Sometimes ,she needed to repeat pronouncing one vowel for many times ,but she never became impatient .After mouths of practicing with her and being corrected by her, my pronunciation became better and better. In the process, we began to know each other and become friends. In my later college year, every time I was going to attend an English speaking competition, I would ask her for advise and she gave me a lot of guidance on English speech. We often met at the coffee shop near NanYuan, reading my draft repeatedly, telling me how to make gestures while delivering speech in front of the public, and sharing her experience of overcoming nervousness. Because of her useful suggestions and patient guidance, I have made progress in oral English.

Last summer vacation, I invited her to visit my hometown, Enshi,a very beautiful place. Looking forward to go to Great Canyon of Enshi, she was very glad at my invitation. I showed her around my hometown and many places of interests and she took a lot of picture with my family members. Seeing a foreign for the first time for most of my hometown people, they were very excited .Besides, she thought highly of our specialty, bacon. This experience will linger on my heart forever.
