I was excited when I got admission for China Three Gorges University. I was thrilled that I would get to travel to another country and experience total different culture, people and food.
As soon as we landed at the Sanxia airport in Yichang, I felt great because some people at the airport was smiling at us and take pictures with us. I really felt like a star at that time. In that case, “friendly” is my first impression of Yichang. And now I am very certain.
Our professors and other people at the university all made us feel welcome. They were all friendly and nice. Above all, they always had this warm smile on their face which showed that we could approach them for anything at anytime.
I should definitely say that the Yichang city is beautiful and huge. The city just looked very lively with busy crowd- great lighting from the shops and tall sky scrapers. I was so surprised when I saw how everyone had a nice smile on their faces. The people were so helpful and they didn’t even make fun of us because of our “Chinglish”
There was one funny incident that I would like to share. We went to buy some eggs and my friend wanted to confirm whether it was chicken eggs. When we said it in English, they can’t understand. So my friend all of a sudden started acting like a chicken using hands for flapping wings and making voices like a chicken. But they never laughed at us. Instead, they understood our actions and gave us the right ones. That was the day that I really understood that Chinese were really nice and friendly people.
The city also has a wide variety of tourist attention, scenery and culture. River Yangtze has always been eye captivating. It is like a soothing balm to a troubled heart. Whenever I felt something was bothering me I go and sit by the river side. The very presence of the slight wind over the waters which creates small waves calms one’s mind.
During the evening we can see the senior citizens doing warm up dances there. It is very interesting to see how energetic and enthusiastic they look. It makes a person to go and join along with them. Sometimes we can even hear them dancing with Indian movies’ songs.
And Chinese food is my favorite. I must say it’s the best. Even hearing the name ‘gumbao jiding’ and ‘gambian jirou’, it makes my mouth drool.
My past two and half years in this place was adventurous, fun and exciting. As I conclude, I know my story doesn’t end here, and in the coming years also I will experience a lot of new things and get to know more about china. So I know wherever my story ends it will have a happy ending.
