Located in the area between the Three Gorges Dam and Gezhouba, 20 kilometers away from the city proper of Yichang, Shipai Fortress Tourist Area is the world’s first military-theme rafting project, integrating rafting adventure, military training, with hydrophilic leisure into a whole. The rafting river reaches can be divided into running water rafting and still water rafting. The whole tourist area mainly is mainly composed of three parts, namely, Yangjiaxi Military, Shipai Anti-war Memorial Hall and Shipai Anti-war Monument. With perilous terrain and sheer peaks, Shipai in Yangjiaxi became the national defense fortress of Chongqing during the War of Resistance against Japan. In 1943, the Chinese and Japanese armies had fought fiercely in this place, with Chinese gaining the final glorious victory, which is called “Chinese Battle of Stalingrad”.
