Located in Panjiawan Tujia Township ofYiduCity,Panjiawan Folk Museum was built in March 2009 and was open to public in November in the following year.It covers a total area of 2,400 square meters withan exhibitionarea of 480 square meters. Its exhibitionconsists ofeight parts:preface, Tujia houses, Tujia origin, festivals, life rites, production and life, construction and development, care and encouragement from above, with a collection of 420 pictures and 398 material objects.
Specifically speaking, there are 2 first-class items, 5 second-class items, and 21 third-class ones. The exhibitionis aimed tomainlydisplay the life, production and folk culture of Tujia ancestors, highlighting thecharacteristic culture and customs of production and life of Tujia ethnic group. Among thecollections,thoseshowing Tujia folk culture include oil-basket, round-backed armchair, spinning wheel, windmill, waterwheel, leizi(old rice husker), bucket, stone mill, engraved wooden bed, Tujia costumes, as well as pottery,iron and bamboo-made tools and others. The museum is the first one devoted to township folk cultureand also the only one forethnic minority folk culture in Hubei Province.
