A total of 736 million yuan has been invested in the construction of new Yichang Museum, including 404 million yuan n the main complex, 300 million yuan in the exhibition-related project and 32 million yuan in the security systems. Targeted at the national first-class museum and based on the concept of “window of history”, the new museum integrates Ba and Chu cultural elements so that it becomes a unique landscape rich in Yichang culture and history.

　　The main building covers an area of 43,080 m². The north of the museum serves as the exhibition and public service areas with an area of 15,247 m²and 10,831 m²respectively. The south serves as warehouses and offices with 7,202 m²of functional areas and 9,800 m²of underground parking lot.

　　Themed at“Ending of Gorges, Opening to Sky”, the new museum consists of 3 parts including basic exhibits,thematic exhibits and special exhibits, with 10 sub-themes in total.

　　Basic exhibits: Ancient Xiling, Ba& Chu of Yiling,History of Xiazhou, Modern Yichang

　　Thematic Exhibits: Colorful Three Gorges, Memories of an Ancient City, Calligraphy (also for temporary display)

　　Special Exhibits: Digital Exhibition Hall, Separation of Sky from Earth, Natural Selection (also Behring Hall)

　　The new museum, highlighting Ba and Chu cultures, demonstrates Yichang’s profound culture and history. It presents not only Yichang people’s lives, their courage and fortitude in exploration, but also the hydropower, geological and topographical features of Yichang. Being a name card of Yichang, the museum fulfills the social function as an education base to spread the local culture.

　　After completion,Yichang Museum will take a leading position in scale, exhibit capacity and technology among provincial and other municipal museums in the nation. It will play a significant role in inheriting and publicizing local culture, enhancing soft power of Yichang as well as promoting its cultural tourism.

　　Please take bus B1/B9/B21/B211 to No.15 Middle School and transfer to bus B313 to Yichang Museum. Or take bus B1/B9 to Jucheng but stand and transfer to bus B343 to Yichang Museum.
