Located at the commanding height of the west corner of Guan Yu Cultural Park in the northwest of Danyang, the Xiangxi Memorial Park of Revolutionary Martyrs is built to commemorate the hundreds of thousands martyrs in Xiangxi region(“Xiangxi” refers to the area to the west of the Hanjiang River and to the north of the Yangtze River) who laid down their lives during the three decades of revolution from the May Fourth Movement in 1919 to 1949. The main buildings consist of a memorial monument, a memorial hall, a temple and so on. In side the hall are memorial tablets, a martyrs’ list, and items displaying the historic events during the New Democratic Revolution. The late president Li Xiannian wrote down the name of the hall and an inscription on the front of the monument which reads “Eternal Glory to the Revolutionary Martyrs in Xiangxi Region”. The hall has been designated as the Provincial Patriotism Education Base by the Hubei Provincial People's Government.
