Wen Anzhi (1582-1659), styled Ruzhi, nicknamed Tie’an, born in Yaqueling (present-day Wenfan Village of Yaqueling Town, Yichang City), was a famous litterateur and historian in the late Ming and early Qing Dynasties. According to History of the Ming Dynasty, Wen Anzhi was conferred the title of Great Scholar of East Cabinet (the prime minister) by King Yongming at the moment of complete collapse of the Ming regime and Wen Anzhi organized troops to fight against the Qing regime supporting the overturned Ming regime. Later, Wen Anzhi died of depression and despair for failure of restoration of the Ming regime.
