Wuji (1545-1628), commonly surnamed Liu, named Zhenghui, born in present-day Dangyang County, was an eminent monk and poet in the Ming Dynasty and the then abbot at the Jade Spring Temple (in Dangyang County). Since the 30th year during Wanli’s reign in the Ming Dynasty (1602), the Jade Spring Temple has experienced massive renovation under his mastership. Wuji is one of the venerable monks in the history of the Jade Spring Temple; and he was famed with a good mastery of Confucianism and gifted talent of poetry, and has written many works, poems and articles, such as Buddhistic Annotations to Zhuangzi and a large number of poems.
