
Qu Yuan (340 BC-278BC) was born in Lepingli of Zigui County. He is not only the first great patriotic poet in the history of Chinese literature, but also one of the four world\'s greatest cultural celebrities.
He assisted King Huai of the Chu State in reform and actively advocated to fight gainst the Qin Stage. However, he was envied by some mean persons, and finally got himself drowned into the Miluo River when hearing his mother state had been conquered by the Qin troops.
He was the founder of Chu Ci, and 26 verses of his poems were passed down including "Li Sao", "Jiu Ge", "Tian Wen", "Zhao Hun", etc, which have started the romantic tradition of Chinese literature. Now the Dragon Boat Festival, or Duanwu Festival on the 5th day of the 5th lunar month is in memory of Qu Yuan.
