As a relatively old genre of folk tunes in Hubei Province, South Opera, also known as Si’xian opera, is originated from Qianlong to Guangxu period in Qing Dynasty (1736 - 1908), and popular in the Tujia Autonomous County of Changyang and Wufeng. For more than 200 years, South Opera has been loved by the Tujia people with its elegant and melodious tunes, fresh and refined lyrics.
