Established in 1954, the Second People’s Hospital of Yichang is a 3A Class Comprehensive Hospital integrating medical treatment, teaching, scientific research, prevention and recovery into a whole. It is also the Second People’s Hospital of China Three Gorges University (CTGU), Affiliated Union Hospital of Tongji Medical School of Huzhong University of Science and Technology as well as the Technically Cooperative Hospital of Wuhan General Hospital of Guangzhou Military.

　　The hospital, divided into Comprehensive District and Cancer District, houses 1345 open beds, 32 clinical departments, 31 professional wards and 18 medical technology departments.
