Vice President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama and his delegation came to visit Yichang on April the 14th. They were greeted by Mayor Li Lecheng who is also the Deputy Secretary of CPC Yichang Municipal Committee, Wang Ke, Deputy Director-Generals of the Department of African Affairs of FMPRC, Vice Major Zhang Zhengjun, etc. After their meeting, they shared dinner together.

Mayor Li Lecheng expressed warm welcome to Mahama and his delegation and introduced the basic information of Yichang and its economic and social development. He said that Yichang, which has won the reputation of City of Hydropower, aims to make it become one of the world famous cities for hydropower and tourism. Yichang, whose total economic volume of ranks second in Hubei Province, applies modern industrial structure with industry as the leading sector. What’s more, its hydropower, equipment manufacture, food and pharmaceutical industry and other indutries also have strong power. Meanwhile, Yichang has achieved balance between economic development and ecological protection, which made Yichang won the laurel of “National Sanitary City”, “National Environmental Protection Model City”, “National Civilized City” and so on. Yichang has established long and friendly relationship with Ghana and many other African countries. Many residents have been to there for visit and many enterprises have sent their staffs there for possible cooperation. He hopes that both of us exchange more and expresses that Yichang will spare no efforts to streghten and promote friendly cooperation between China and Ghana as well as other African countries.

Vice President Mahama expressed his thanks for our hospitable reception. He said Ghana and China has long history of communication and cooperation. He has been to China five times, however, this is his first visit to Hubei Province and Yichang city. Ghana’s main industry is agriculture. At present, its economy develops rapidly, which attracts more investment and cooperation from other countries. In recent years, its coomercial cooperation with China has increased a lot. This time he and his delegation come here to observe the Three Gorges Project. They feel so happy to come to beautifu Yichang and believe that their visit will surely promote mutual communication and cooperation.
