On September 16, at the invitation of International Department, Central Committee of CPC, a 19-member Burmese cadre delegation (the ministerial status) headed by Zaw Myint Maung, the second vice chairman of National League for Democracy and the chief minister of Mandalay division, visited Yichang and emphatically investigated the Three Gorges Project. The delegation was accompanied by Ding Xuhuan, the director of our office.
In the Three Gorges Dam area, the delegation successively visited the exhibition hall, the five-level ship lock, the dam crest, the central control room and the interception memorial garden, and had a thorough understanding of the social and economic benefits brought by the Three Gorges Project, the sediment treatment in the dam area, the environmental protection in the reservoir area and others. After admiring the beauty of high gorge flat lake and understanding the modern management experience as well as the high-tech of the Three Gorges Project, the delegation highly affirmed the concept of sustainable development for hydropower that the Three Gorges Project “built a power station well, promote economy in one place, improve environment of one area and benefit a group of people”. They also appreciated the comprehensive benefits of the project in flood control, drought resistance, power generation, shipping, ecological water supply, tourism and so on.
The visit of the delegation has deepened their understandings of Yichang, enhanced the friendship between the two sides and laid the foundation for friendly cooperation between the two places in the field of hydropower infrastructure.
