Letter of intent on cooperation signed between Yichang and Larnaca, Cyprus

  Yichang city and Larnaca, Cyprus signed a letter of intent on cooperation on line on September 6. Liu Yantao, Chinese ambassador to the Republic of Cyprus, Ma Zejiang, mayor of Yichang, and Andreas Vyras, mayor of Larnaca, Cyprus, attended the event and delivered speeches.

  Liu Yantao mentioned that Yichang is home to the world-renowned Three Gorges Project and serves as a regional central city in the upper and middle reaches of the Yangtze River, and is often referred to as the “World Hydropower Capital” and the “Powerhouse of China.” Larnaca, with its rich cultural heritage, abundant natural resources, and picturesque ecological environment, plays a pivotal role in Cyprus as a transport hub and economic center. It is also one of Europe's most beautiful holiday destinations. Both cities have ample opportunities and immense potential for cooperation in trade and investment, urban development, healthcare services, public health, education, culture, and tourism. Liu Yantao believed that the letter of intent on cooperation will not only promote practical cooperation in various fields for the two cities but also inject stronger impetus into the development of the China-Cyprus strategic partnership. He looked forward to both cities becoming founding members of the "China-Cyprus Friendship City Alliance" and establishing cooperation with more cities, facilitating information sharing, resource sharing, sharing of complemetary advantages, and win-win cooperation to jointly usher in a new chapter in China-Cyprus relations.

  Ma Zejiang introduced the economic and social development of Yichang city and extended a warm invitation to the citizens of Larnaca and the people of Cyprus to visit Yichang and see the beautiful Yangtze River and the magnificent Three Gorges in person. He also added that Yichang will uphold the principles of mutual respect and sincerity and work closely with Larnaca to promote high-level, multi-domain, and comprehensive practical cooperation, helping the China-Cyprus strategic partnership reach new heights.

  Andreas Vyras extended sincere greetings to the people of Yichang and a warm invitation. He introduced Larnaca's tourism industry, tourist attractions, and development plans. He expressed his vision for “a better life” and willingness to build a closer relationship with Yichang. He also emphasizd the importance of strengthening exchanges and interactions at all levels as a significant driving force for the development of both cities.
