Succeeding the first rise of the water level at Jianli Hydrological Station on July 21st above the warning line of 35.5 meters in this year, the water levels of the mid-lower reach of the Yangtze River were detected constantly rising on July 22nd.
As the statistics by the Bureau of Hydrology of Changjiang Water Resources Commission suggests, the water levels at the major hydrological stations in Yichang, Shashi, Wuhanguan, Datong, Hukou, etc. in the mid-lower reach of the Yangtze River were constantly rising on July 22nd. At 14:00 the water levels at the stations of Yichang, Shashi, Datong and Hukou have reached 50.62 meters, 41.97 meters, 13.09 meters and 18.65 meters respectively and the levels at the first two stations were higher than the average of the same-period data of the past five years.
On July 21st, the water level and flood discharge rate of the Yangtze River were detected respectively at the levels of 25.94 meters (0.94m higher than the defense water level) and 51,500 m3 /s (with an increase of 3,400 m3/s upon the rate of July 20th) at Wuhanguan station, which have reached the highest level or rate of Wuhan section in 2012.
In wake of the constant rise of the water levels, the level-3 emergency response has been initiated in Hubei Province at present. As the hydrological departments estimated, a new flood peak forming in the upper reach of the Yangtze River will lead to an increase of flood release and a consequent constant rise of water levels of the main stream sections in the mid-lower reach. According the present situation of floods and rainfalls, the water level at Wuhanguan station is estimated to rise to the warning line of 27 meters on July 24th.
