Cram schools consume the most, travel and electric products also contribute. According to the random interviews of over 20 parents yesterday, the so-called “third semester” nearly ate up all the salary of the parents. Nearly 30% of the families spent more than 5000 RMB on their children. Half of the money was spent on cram schools, much of the rest on travel and digital products.
As many parents believed that relaxation would make students fall behind others, about 70% of them sent their children to cram schools in the summer vacation. One mother interviewed said: “My child is in Grade Five, and I have spent as much as 2800 RMB in cram schools for him to learn Chinese, math and English.”
Besides, summer camps and travel also take an important part in the summer vacation for many students. According to a father interviewed, the money spent for his child on cram schools and summer camps totaled up to over 4000 RMB. Xu Rong, chief of Yichang Shunda Travel Agent pointed out that much earlier before the summer vocation began, 80% of the camps were booked. It is reported that besides the conventional camps, the high-cost oversea study tours in some travel agents were favored by certain parents.
High school graduates blew the wave of consuming electric products. Many freshmen bought “three-piece set”: mobile phone, camera and computer, costing almost 10000 RMB. He Ai, manager of the Market Planning Department of SUNING, said that mobile phones from 1500 to 3000 RMB and laptops around 4000 RMB are the most popular among students.
