Yuxi Folk Art Museum in Dangyang County was completed on August 28th, as the largest township folk art museum with the largest investment and folk art collection, and the exhibits are in arrangement in the present stage.
The museum includes many buildings of various ages and architectural features, such as the constructions of holistic wooden frame and black brick buildings dating back respectively to the end of the Qing Dynasty, the Republic of China and the early stage after the foundation of the People’s Republic of China. Some of the constructions or buildings have a history of more than a hundred years, of much value for studying the relationship between the folk buildings and the official constructions as well as the development of local architectures in modern China, and they have been taken as the key objects in the Third National Survey of Cultural Relics during 2007 to 2011.
Construction of the museum started in April, 2011 with an investment of 6.5 million RMB, and it covers 1,300 m2 with a construction area of 1,260m2. Its seven sections include the halls of folklore experience, civilization of Zhangju River Valley, folk literature and art, folklore of agricultural production, farming culture, folk life and traditional professions. The exhibits comprise more than 970 pieces of farming and production tools, agricultural processing tools, wooden furniture and handicrafts relating to local weddings and birthday custom, over 380 pieces of antiques produced in the Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China and 220 pictures and paintings as well.
The museum is expected to be open to visitors for free in the near future.
