31-year Gezhouba: Still Safe

Yangtze Gezhouba Water Control Project

  It was learned on Monday that the first dam on the Yangtze River—Gezhouba Water Control Project, which has been in operation for 31 years, received safety inspection that lasted one and a half years, and the experts of the inspection group declared that the dam of the project is in its safe state.

  Construction of Gezhouba Project was started in 1970, when the inexperienced designers and constructers overcome many difficulties with efforts to make the great achievement. Since it was put into operation in 1981, the Gezhouba Project has been running in a stable situation as the reverse-regulation shipping project to serve construction of the Three Gorges Project.

  The inspection was organized by the Dam Safety Supervision Center under the State Electricity Regulatory Commission and started in early April of last year. 16 famous members of the inspection group are experts from the fields of hydraulic engineering and monitoring, including Zheng Shouren, Xu Linxiang and so on.

  After the third meeting of regular inspection, the experts declared the safe state of the dam. It is learnt that the dam will received a thorough examination every five years.
