“Sight-restoring Project in Yichang”: Over 300 to Regain Sight

On the morning of October 12, the “Sight-restoring project in Yichang” initiated by National Technical Steering Group for the Prevention of Blindness, Beijing Tongren Hospital and the HNA Group was launched officially in the People\'s Hospital of Changyang Tujia Autonomous County. Wu Kaibao, deputy director of Yichang Municipal People\'s Congress Standing Committee, attended the opening ceremony.

At 9 a.m., in the hall of the People\'s Hospital of Inpatient Building of Changyang County, 60 patients who have had a surgery the day before recovered well and the nurse was changing dressing for them. Li Mingde, a 60-year-old man from Dayan Township, had suffered from cataract for more than 3 years. He said that it brought much inconvenience for him. Informed by the Bureau of Civil Affairs of Changyang County on October 11, he came here immediately for the operation the next morning. “A few seconds after changing the dressing, I feel like in a new world," said the old man happily as interviewed by the journalist.

So far, the initial examination showed that more than 500 people suffered from cataract, 300 of whom were considered in need and available state of operation through pre-operative examination and would receive a free sight-restoring surgery by the top eye specialists from Beijing Tongren Hospital.

Around 10 employees from the HNA Group as volunteers will take 24-hour care of the patients every day and 10 medical workers from Yichang Central Hospital also joined the “Sight-restoring Project in Yichang”.
