To allocate the middle and primary school educational resources scientifically and promote the sustainable development of schools of different levels, the municipal government has planned the layout of prospective public schools and pre-schools in the city center from 2011 to 2020 by approving the Allocation Plan of Middle Schools and Primary Schools and the Allocation Plan of Pre-school Education.

　　There are currently 151 public schools in the city center, of which 145 are public schools and 6 are private schools, with 126,000 students. The estimated number of students will be 190,000 in 2015 and 250,000 in 2020. According to the plan, there will be 176,000 students in 169 public schools and in 2015 and 234,000 students in 206 public schools in 2020.

　　Besides, 188 kindergartens are to be established in the city center by 2015, and 252 by 2020, not including newly-established private kindergartens. The areas include Xiling District, Wujia District, Dianjun District, Xiaoting District, Gaoxin District, Xiaoxita Region, Three Gorges Dam Region, Longquan Region, Yaqueling Region, Baiyang Region, Anfu Temple Region, Gujiadian Region, Honghuatao Region, Gaobazhou Region.
