In October 2012, when news came to Zhao Zonghua, the general manager of the Yichang Marine Diesel Engine Co., Ltd that a Russian project of subway support ring was seeking the sub-contractor, he went through serious consideration after deciding to receive the large order totaling 50,000 tons of supporting rings worth 340 million Yuan.
Faced with various difficulties such as huge order quantity, pressing deliver deadline, and the prospect of selling at a loss if following existing production model, the company actively transformed its system and mechanism, and every department went to all lengths to fulfill the production quotas. Numerous problems such as casting models, special uniforms, material logistics, initial work-piece trial-manufacture, outsourcing cooperation, special machine putting into production, achieving batch production were solved one after another. With the transformation of the organizational production model, optimized procedure and improved production efficiency, not only did company complete the productive task, but generated 10 percent of profit.
When two different types of support rings were delivered in batch, the Russian experts were surprised at company’s organizational capacity and the production’s high quality level and conveyed the wish to expand cooperation after this project.
