Shahe Park—Largest Garden on Water in Yichang
2013-04-02 14:41:02 本网讯

The comprehensive reconstruction of Shahe surroundings had completely changed the area in recent years. Yesterday, the Yichang Construction Committee has informed that the construction team of Shahe Park has arrived at worksite. In the near future, Yichang’s largest garden on water will be available to citizens.

Beautifying mountains with various flowers and plants

The construction site of Shahe Park will be divided into four parts: the levee area mortared by rubble, backfilled area parallel to the railway line, mineral yard area and the area opposite the Pharmaceutical Factory. According to the planning, the levee area is designed to be a park for sightseeing, consisting of pedestrian roads, trails along the river and park benches. So the future Shahe Park will be an ecological landscape area combined with various plants and a recreation area providing residents with the functions of walking, resting and sightseeing.

Weeping willows and oleander are expected to be planted in riverside slope, while the ground of the slope will be covered by oxalis corymbosa; the landscape belt of the riverbanks will be enriched by aquatic plants; climbing plants such as mucuna sempervirens will be used to modify and beautify the mountains.

Aquatic Plants Are Close to Nature

Flowering shrubs will be used to decorate and green the backfilled area parallel to the railway line. Flowering plants including crape myrtle, oleander, oriental cherry and azalea are intended to be planted irregularly along the roadside, creating a natural and attractive landscape.

Aquatic plants will be indirectly introduced to the riverside, and the reasonable collocation of plants can make the whole area more abundant and closer to nature, meanwhile purifying the source of water.

Reserving Vegetation and Creating Green Hedge

To ensure the abundant supply of sapling and flower seedling for the later stage of park’s construction, trees like metasquoia, goldenrain trees and camphor trees will be planted in large scale in the mineral yard area. At the same time, green hedge like holly will be planted to shelter the low walls surrounding the park.

Using Open Space to Create a Well-arranged Park

The riverside landscape belt for sightseeing and walking will be regarded as priority among the four areas of the park. Open space made by demolition can be effectively used by planting the vegetation. In addition, making full use of natural environment for vegetation planting can leave the visitors with a sense of colony and multi-layer. Once completed, it is believed that Shahe Park will enable every visitor to make a close contact with the nature, while being impressed by the beauty of the natural landscape and its new space. Meanwhile, Shahe Park will become a natural“oxygen bar”for Yichang citizens. (Reporter Li Feng)
