2013: 100 Thousand Rural People Say Farewell to Unclean Water
2013-05-29 14:43:39 市政府办公室

It was informed yesterday from the Water Conservancy and Hydroelectricity Bureau of Yichang City that in 2013, the construction of water conservancy facilities for people’s well-being will continue to be the work plan of the bureau. And by doing so, they hope that at least 100 thousand rural people are capable of drinking safe water.

According to official statistics, 8449 rural drinking water safety projects have been completed since 2005 around Yichang City, which settles the problem of safety of drinking water for 1.4946 million rural residents. Under the guidance of experts from the bureau, a large number of local farmers have learnt to use biological filtering technology to make the water out of valley streams, reservoirs and ponds safe. Compared with traditional water purification process, once coming into use, the new technology can save more than 60% of construction costs. Thanks to technology extension in rural areas, access to “purified water” is no longer difficult for 300 thousand rural people. (Reporter Li Feng, Correspondent Guo Lidan)
