It was informed from the government yesterday that construction projects will be launched aimed at water source protection, prevention and control of pollution, enhancing environment supervision in order to further improve environmental quality of water source for drinking.
According to government notice, Yichang Government will adopt a series of measures such as clearance and demolition of existing buildings, closing sewage draining exits, population relocation, moving out large livestock farms and dumps, etc. to protect the water source in first-class reserve areas including Gezhouba Waterworks, Nanmuxi Reservoir, Shanxichong Reservoir, Guanzhuang Reservoir, Lucheng No.1 Waterworks, Lucheng No.2 Waterworks, Lujianggang Reservoir, Gonghe Reservoir, Zhijiang City Waterworks.
Meanwhile, as for point source pollution with fixed drain outlets and sites in the second-class reserve areas such as Gezhouba Waterworks, Nanmuxi Reservoir, Guanzhuang Reservoir, Lucheng No.1 Waterworks, Gonghe Reservoir, we will take measures to shut down these outlets, move out factories that pollute water source and control point source pollution. Whereas for the non-point source pollution in the second-class reserve areas like agriculture, living, livestock and poultry (fishery) farms, we will limit the amount of pesticides for agriculture, wastes recycling, wastes collection and transshipment, closing relevant farms and forbidding water transport.
In addition to those measures, we will strengthen ecological restoration and construction for water source, carrying out ecological restoration work and biological purification work, setting up ecological shelter zone around reservoirs, and letting natural beaches and wet lands around reservoirs coming into play in ecological restoration. Moreover, we will introduce engineering measures inside the reservoirs such as laying ecological floating bed, placing biological purification device and algae removal and aeration device to keep the water ecological health and improve water quality.
