Identity Cards of Vegetables to Be Carried Out in Yichang

  By 2015, there will be 60 standard vegetable gardens, 100 standard livestock and poultry breeding demonstration bases and also 50 standard aquatic products breeding bases built in Yichang,  realizing pollution-free production of three kinds of agricultural products and effective control of poisonous and harmful substance residue exceeding standard among agricultural products.

  Agricultural products standardization refers to overall production process of agricultural products according to a series of standards for each stage before, during and after production. Yichang Wangzhou Agricultural Vegetable Production Base is located at Wangzhouping Village, Tucheng Township, Dianjun District at 600 meters above sea level and surrounded by mountains, the fields dispersedly planted by traditional farmers are integrated. And before planting vegetables in green house, land of 66.7 hectares strictly experience “recuperation period” to regain fertility.

  In Europe where agricultural products quality is strictly controlled, many countries are carrying out standardizing production because it is directly bearing on the common benefit of the public.  According to the official in charge of the agricultural products quality from Municipal Agricultural Bureau, for standardizing the production, it presently needs to investigate, monitor and evaluate the environmental safety of land about 286,666 hectares and large-scale livestock and poultry farms and aquaculture bases so as to divide the production areas scientifically and identify the proper, limited and prohibited production varieties in each area. Meanwhile, it is needed to formulate unified technical standards of controlling the safety of agricultural products quality and revise them once every five years.

  To guarantee the product safety, we need a set of supervision and traceability system which make sure that no one dare to break prohibition at channels of production and commodity circulation instead of customers’ identification. “Identity cards” are important for many countries and regions to ensure the quality safety. According to the planning, it is requested to build comprehensive product management systems for enterprises producing agricultural products to implement electronic records management of purchasing and distribution of inputs, fertilization, pesticide application, products harvest, detection, coding, and packaging labels to come to market. By 2016, it is hoped that agricultural products produced from 80 percent of land will be provided with inspection certificates.

  It means that no matter in the fields or on the tables, the products can be supervised according to the identity. As the implementation of checking the “identity cards” , in near future all agricultural products at supermarkets or farmer’s markets in urban areas will be gradually standardized, marking the name of the products, producing areas, production date and quality guarantee period on packages.  (Reporter Zhao Wei, Correspondent Zhou Yibing, Intern Huan Senyuan)
