On January 16, the reporter learned from the Municipal Spring Festival Transport Administration Office that about 7 million trips are expected to be made on roads during the 2014 Yichang Spring travel season, up 1% from last year, as well as 150,000 trips via ships, with an increase of 8% compared with last year. In general, road transportation will be medium/short-distance oriented, and waterway transportation will mainly take place between Yichang and the neighboring cities such as Badong and Fengjie that are home to dense migrant workers. The passenger flow peak will be mostly concentrated in the last five days before the Spring Festival and the sixth to the sixteenth day of the first lunar month.
It is learned that, before the beginning of the Spring Festival travel season, the Municipal Transportation Bureau had made a careful analysis about the flow volume, flow direction and flow time based on a survey that has been made on the 2014 Spring Festival passenger flows. Combined with the previous years’ experience, a scientific prediction has been made about the overall situation in order to get fully prepared for the transport and human capacity. The well-prepared capacity include 3591 passenger vehicles, 626 chartered buses and emergency coaches for the road transport, and 69 passenger ships with 10,600 seats for the waterway.
Before the Spring Festival travel season started, the Municipal Transportation Bureau organized the road and waterway management departments to carry out a safety inspection. The highway department established 10 emergency rescue centers, 23 emergency rescue stations in the main provincial and national roads so that rescue personnel with equipment could get to emergency spots within two hours. In order to deal with rainy, snowy, or stormy weather that might occur, snow removal equipments have already been purchased. (Reporter: Yan Xiaodong, correspondent: Wan Pingyuan.)
