Yichang Selected As National New Energy Model City

  It was learned from Hubei Development and Reform Commission on February 12 that the National Energy Administration Bureau recently identified 81 cities as the first batch of new energy model cities, including Xiangyang, Yichang, Huangshi, E’zhou in Hubei.

  The new energy model cities are those who make full use of solar energy, wind energy, geothermal energy, biomass energy and other renewable energy in the energy development of urban areas, making renewable energy achieve a high-scale or large-scale in energy consumption. Hubei Energy Administration Bureau introduced that in accordance with requirements of the National Energy Administration Bureau, Hubei will pay close attention to the construction of new energy model city, promoting the application of solar energy, biomass energy, geothermal energy and other renewable energy technologies in urban electricity supply, heating supply, gas supply, and transportation and construction.

  The four model cities in Hubei---Xiangyang, Yichang, Huangshi and E’zhou--- are distinctive in urban construction. Xiangyang prioritizes the development of renewable power; Ezhou focuses on the development of biomass energy, solar energy and geothermal energy; Yichang focuses on the development of hydro-electricity and green building; Huangshi attaches importance on the combination of new energy use and livelihood projects, popularizing the use of new energy in shanty towns, public rental housing, abandoned mines etc. On request, the amount of new alternative energy in Xiangyang, E’zhou, Yichang and Huangshi will respectively reach 1.04 million, 590 thousand, 1.12 million, 490 thousand tons of standard coal, accounting for the proportion of urban energy consumption 6%, 6 %, 7.1 %, 6.7 %.
