On February 21, the Municipal Water Conservancy and Hydropower Bureau officially launched the Rural Drinking Water Safety Project, aiming at eradicating the drinking water problem for the 30 poorest villages within a year and establishing a long-term management and protection mechanism.
In order to offer the villagers an access to safe drinking water, the water conservancy departments of the city, counties and townships gathered 100 technicians and established 30 working groups to provide one-to-one support for the 30 villages. In addition, water conservancy departments of the city and counties will deploy the funds of the State Rural Drinking Water Safety Project, the management funds of the small-scaled rural water conservancy facilities, and the supporting funds of Local Rural Drinking Water Safety Project, mainly to the poor villages. Meanwhile, the working groups will also actively apply for the relief fund of a new countryside construction project which is directly under Yingchang government and the municipal subsidies for the 30 poorest villages. Besides, they will raise money from the United Front Department, the Federation of Industry and Commerce and the Old Area Promotion Committee to jointly solve the drinking water safety problem.
At present, the working groups have already got the order and gone to the target villages. Moreover, the investigation and verification of drinking water situation will be completed by the end of February, and then the engineering designs will be carried out according to the local conditions: a design for water supply engineering with more than 20 tons of daily water supply, and a typical design for water supply engineering with less than 20 tons of daily water supply. Above all, the construction project is expected to be done before August. (Correspondent Liu Yuansheng, Correspondent Guo Lidan, Reporter Cao Yang)
