On March 10, the technicians in Three Gorges Navigation Authority dismantled big and small wheels of the bridge crane at the south ship dock of the Three Gorges Dam, marking that a crane renewal project started in full swing. It is the first time to overhaul since the operation of the bridge crane in 2003.
Installed on the south and north ship docks respectively and spare to each other, two bridge cranes are the only devices used to lift and let go the stop log and access door on the docks.
The overhaul of the bridge crane includes electrical and mechanical parts, the latter from March to early April and the former from April to the end of May. During the overhaul, the bridge crane at the north dock as a shared one will take charge of lifting and letting go the stop log and access door. The project will be completed on May 31.
