Recently, Yuan’an County successfully became a county of national rock desertification control. The PDRC(The Provincial Development and Reform Commission) will review and approve the project implementation plan for Yuanan rock desertification control in the near future. Yuanan County will strive for the investment of 30 million yuan from the central government at the scheduled time, So far, 7 counties and districts in Yichang are included in key counties for rock desertification control, namely, Yiling District, Yidu, Xinshang, Wufeng, Changyang, Zigui and Yuan’an.

　　According to The National Rock Desertification Comprehensive Management Planning Framework, the pilot projects about the comprehensive control of rock desertification are lauched in 100 counties of 8 provinces with serious rocky desertification. It’s a three-year plan. By the end of 2013, a 100 million yuan special fund was drummed up for it. 117.55 square kilometers of rock desertification area was controlled. 6838 hectares of vegetation were constructed and protected. It can not only effectively protect the ecological environment but also improve the local agricultural production conditions and realize a win-win situation of acquiring wealth and protection environment by various projects, such as the full implementation of forest reservation, forest plantation, grassland improvement, grass plantation, turning hillsides into terraced fields, forming a complete set of production field, approaching channels, drainage channels, sediment check dam, settling basin, cistern etc. (Correspondents: Cheng Qun, Liu Jiuguo)
