On April 21, at the lab of College of Material and Chemical Engineering, China Three Gorges University, Professor Li Dejiang and his research team are taking measures to solve a problem of the key technology of ultraviolet absorbent. After some time, products that use this technology will be made in Huayang Chemical Co., Ltd.. After cooperating with Huayang for 6 years, Li and his team have solved the problem of process optimization, product purification and so on, introduced five new products and helped Huayang to achieve profits of 100 million yuan in three years. "In CTGU, almost every professor, associate professor has his or her own service platform." Dr. Yang Xuelin told us. Yang focused on the sample and system analysis of graphite, and he is the first one who proposed that Yichang graphite could be used in lithium-ion batteries and owns a national patent. After hearing the news, Yichang Zhongke Hengda Graphite Co., Ltd. signed with Yang and built the new energy materials laboratory in CTGU. The laboratory has received eight patents till now. Among them, the new material that they discovered promoted the recovery rate of the spherical graphite from less than 40% to over 80%, and more than 50 million RMB tax will be paid in 2014.
As the only comprehensive university in Yichang, CTGU takes advantage of the location and endeavors to serve the hydroelectric industry, local economic and social development by implementing the principle of combining production, study and research. Since the national 11th Five-Year Plan was implemented, the university has applied more than 1000 technology achievements to various fields, such as the construction of the Three Gorges Project, Ecological Protection and Biochemical Engineering, Electronic Information, Equipment Manufacturing, New Materials etc., which makes a profit of over 20 billion yuan. Among them, more than 40 research centers are built in Yichang, over 330 scientific and technological achievements are promoted and 108 cooperation agreements are signed. To build Yichang into a sub-center city and ecological cultural tourism city in Hubei Province, more than 100 development plans are set up and nearly 1,000 research reports are finished. “Yichang is on the way to a modern mega-city, and CTGU must promote the adjustment of disciplines in order to take part in the development of Yichang.” Said He Weijun, President of CTGU. Based on the six key industries of Yichang, CTGU has increased the cultivation of urban construction and social management talents. A few new colleges have been set up in the university, such as Material and Chemical Engineering, Biological and Pharmaceutical, Mechanical and Power etc.. He said that the new adjustment of disciplines would specify the position for CTGU in fulfilling the social responsibility of being a regional university in the development of Yichang.
