On the morning of May 16th, hundreds of universities and institutions visited Yichang and the Industry-University-Research cooperation meeting was held in downtown jointly by the Science and Technology Department of Hubei Province and the Yichang Municipal Government. The representatives from universities and enterprises like Tsinghua University, Hubei Yihua Group and so on made speeches at the meeting. Some enterprises signed agreement on science and technology cooperation with universities and institutes. Guo Yuejing, the vice-chairman of the Provincial CPPCC and the director of the Provincial Science and Technology Department, and Ma Xunming, the deputy-secretary of the Municipal Party Committee and Mayor, attended the meeting and delivered the speeches.

　　At the meeting, Guo Yuejin fully affirmed the practice to build Yichang City into an innovative city. He pointed out that an enterprise-led, market-oriented and industry-university-research combined technological innovation system should be established as a breakthrough to advance the overall innovation system. The dominant position of enterprise in industry-university-research cooperation should be further highlighted to lead and support the gathering of innovation elements. A government-oriented, business-based, financial and venture capital-assisted, social funds-supplied investment provides the strong fund guarantee for technological innovation. The organization construction of the intermediary service of science and technology should be strengthened in accordance with the principle of “organization networking, function socialization, service industrialization”. The relationship between the various elements of the industry-university-research cooperation should be coordinated to build a comprehensive and efficient resource allocation system of industry-university-research cooperation.

　　Ma Xuming said that, for a very long time, innovation-driven has been treated as the core strategy in Yichang City for urban development to actively explore new ways of building an innovative city and comprehensively promote the industry-university-research cooperation, which significantly improved the technological strength. Yichang City has been entitled consecutively as the National Advanced City in Science and Technology for seven times, and it has also successfully entered the ranks of the national innovation pilot cities. During the construction of a modern megacity, the strong support of talents, science and technology is urgently needed. The support of efforts of the industry-university-research cooperation in Yichang will be further increased to build a first-class platform and create a first-class environment to transform more research products into practical productivity. He hoped that we could take this as a new starting point to expand cooperative areas and deepen cooperation contents to realize common development.
