Yichang’s Central Road Network Planning for Public Advice

  How to plan for the road network of central area and improve the traffic situation when Yichang is accelerating the construction of a modern mega-city? Yesterday, the Special Planning for Road Network of Yichang Municipal Area (2014-2030 years) drew up by the Municipal Planning Bureau was officially publicized.

  According to the Planning, Yichang will further develop regional road network system with the expressway as the skeleton and the arterial road as complement. Meanwhile, they will optimize the primary and secondary road network distributed so that the Yichang will form a well-contacted urban road system with rational structure, fully function and efficient operation.

  The Planning includes six Groups of Xiling, Wujiagang, Dianjun, Xiaoting, Yiling and Baiyang. The travel time among internal groups is expected to be less than within 20 minutes; within the central area, no more than 40 minutes. The average vehicle speed will not be slower than 25 km / h in Xiling Group and Wujiagang Group, and it will not be slower than 35 km / h in connected roads between groups.

  The Municipal Planning Bureau indicated that the Special Planing of Road Network in Central Area has entered the phase of publicity before approval, and citizens are welcomed to log in Yichang Municipal Planning Bureau Website and Yichang Government Website (www.yichang.gov.cn) to give suggestions.

  How the road network of "Six Groups" will change?

  According to the Planning, all groups will build expressways with different road network structures.

  Xiling Group: Four Expressways

  According to the Planning, there will be four expressways, namely, the Three Gorges Expressway, Xiazhou Avenue, Miaozui Bridge - 2nd Xiling Road - Fazhan Avenue, and 3rd Shengli Road- Gangyao Road. Meanwhile, the Yemingzhu Road - Dongshan Avenue will be built as the trunk main road, and the Yanjiang Avenue, 2nd Dongshan Road, 1st Xiling Road and the Yunji Road as the urban-life main road.

  In Xiling Area, there will be built 3 full interchanges, 5 half interchanges, and 12 separate interchanges. In addition, the cloverleaf intersections will be adopted in the connected area between sub trunk road and 2nd Xiling Road, 3rd Shengli Road- Gangyao Road, and the Three Gorges Expressway.

  Except Dongshan Tunnel and Yunji Tunnel, new tunnels will be built on the Xiazhou Avenue (2 tunnels), No. 3 Shengli Road (1 tunnel), Yemingzhu Road (1 tunnel), and Yanjiang Avenue (1tunnel) in Xiling Groups

  Wujiagang Group: 6 Full Interchanges

  In Wujiagang Group, there are three expressways (namely the Three Gorges expressway, Xiazhou Avenue and Huaxi Road). According to the planning, and Dongshan Avenue – Wulin Road - Yigu Road, Chengdong Avenue - Han Yi Road  will be built as the trunk main road, Juxiang Road – 3rd Dongshan Road, Bailinhe Road, Zhongnan Road, Heyi Road, urban and rural roads and some other roads as the urban life trunk road.

  The tunnels in Wujiagang Group will be mainly built on Chengdong Avenue (one tunnel), Juxiang Road (one tunnel), Heyi Road (one tunnel), Gonglian Road (two tunnels), and Jinlong Road (one tunnel).

  Furthermore, six full interchanges and 13 separate interchanges will be built in this area. According to the Planning, all intersections of primary and secondary roads are required to be channelized, the import and export lanes should be increased, and the border lines of roads should be widened at the intersection.

  Dianjun Group: Rotary Traffic

  According to the Planning, Dianjun will build four expressways, namely Dianjun Avenue, Jiangcheng Avenue, Huaxi Road and Yiqiao Road (accomplished). The expressway will be built with the central median, semi-closed form, and strictly control of the number of import and export on the main road, thus can adopt the separate interchange to connect the trunk road of the city.

  The "Seven vertical and four horizontal roads" system is the overall structure of the trunk road network in Dianjun Group. The "Seven vertical roads" include Jiangnan Avenue, Paifangpo Road, 2nd Jiangnan Road, South Station Road, 3rd Jiangnan Road, Baima Road and Tuanjie Road; and the "Four horizontal roads" as Jiangjun Road, Dianjun Road, Shuangshi Road and Wulong Road. All the above trunk roads will be connected with Wulong Area, Bawangdian Area, South Station Area, and Qiaobian Area, thus forming the core characteristic area of Dianjun Group.

  Meanwhile, the traffic function of the region will be strengthened through the rotary traffic modes (such as the Jiangnan Road, Dianjun Road, South Station Road, and the Yiqiao Road will be shaped to the outer traffic of the ecological area (east of the railway), and the Jiangjun Road, Paifangpo Road, and Baima Road will be shaped to enclosed traffic to connect the Qiaobian Area and the South Station Area).

  Furthermore, in order to protect the landscape of the Dianjun District, tunnels can be constructed if necessary. They will be located on the Shuangshi Road (include four tunnels), South Station Road (include two tunnels), Paifangpo Road (include one tunnel), and 3rd Wulong Road (include two tunnels).

  Xiaoting Group: "Four vertical and three horizontal" Road Network

  There are two expressways in the Xiaoting Group, namely Zhangjiawan Road and Taozichong Road.

  The overall road network structure of this is "Four vertical and three horizontal". The "Four vertical" as: Linjiang Avenue, Yinling Road, Xiao Ting Avenue and Airport Road; the "Three horizontal" as: Xianfeng Road, Qilichong Road (its rear section connects with the Jinxiao Road) and Yingbin Avenue. All the trunk roads will shape the formation of network structure, constituting the basic skeleton of the road network and connecting each area of Xiaoting Group, thus forming the core area of this region.

  Baiyang Group: Latticed Road Network

  The road network in this area is in the form of latticed structure, and the overall structure is featured with "Five vertical and six horizontal ones." The "Five vertical" roads refer to the Baiyang Avenue, Yunzhao Road, Yunbao Road, 3rd Yangcheng Road, and Tianjiahe Avenue in Shawan Area, Shanxiyao Area, New Industrial Area and Tianjiahe Area; "Six horizontal " roads refer to the backup developed areas and six operating trunk roads, namely Ziyun Avenue, Shanxi Avenue, Ynagcheng Avenue, Antai Road, Meizixi Road and Majiapu Road.

  There are three expressways in the planning area: Zhangjiawan Road- No.1 Yangcheng Road, Xiazhou Avenue- Baiya Road, and Meixiang Road- Yali Road.

  According to the Planning, the natural mountains with relatively high elevation and large volume are required to retain as many as possible. Meanwhile, efforts should be made to increase the green space of the industrial park, to improve the construction of ecological protection, and to avoid the excessive filling and digging of the road construction.

  Yiling Group: "Four vertical and three horizontal" Road Network

  Four expressways will be built in this area: Three Gorges expressway, Xiazhou Avenue (which has spread to Fazhan Avenue), Xiaoya Road (accomplished) and the Gangyao North Road.

  The network structure of Yiling Group is "Five vertical and four horizontal ones”. The "Five vertical" refers to Shuanghong Avenue, Pinghu Avenue, Yixing Avenue, Yichang-Zigui Road and Fazhan Avenue; the "Four horizontal" refers to Binhu Road, Mingzhu Road, Jinjiang Avenue and Dongfang Avenue. All these trunk roads will be connected to the center of Yiling Area, Fengjiawan Area, Nancaixia Area, Fazhan Avenue Area, Yanjiahe Area, and Yiling Integrated Industrial Park Area, thus forming the core characteristic area of Yiling Group.
