Biggest Drug Trafficking Case in Yichang This Year
2014-06-23 17:01:25

To make a big fortune, a drug dealer planned to open a gambling and video gaming house to cover drug dealing. Based on related information, the police did some investigations and cracked this gang of drug dealers. So far, this is the biggest drug dealing case of this year in Yichang, in which 8 kg drugs was seized. On June 9th, the two suspects were arrested by Xiling Sub-Bureau of Public Security.

Last year, the police of the Xiling Sub-Bureau of Public Security discovered that Zhang and his wife were involved not only in drug abuse, but also in drug trafficking. Zhang and Li, who was in Guangdong Province, were suspected of drug dealing and they established a drug trafficking system connecting Guangdong and Jingzhou, Guangdong and Yichang. The police learnt that Zhang also planned to open a gambling and video gaming house to cover his drug business.

It was found that Li, who provided drugs to Zhang, is 37 years old. Born in Songzi County, Li used to work in a public institution in Jingzhou. But he quitted the job because he thought the salary was too low. Later, he went to work in Guangdong Province and it was during that time that Li began his drug trafficking business and established the drug trafficking system. In 2000, Zhang met Li in a gambling and video gaming house in Guangdong and they became friends. Since then, Li has been providing drugs to Zhang. Last year, Zhang\'s wife was arrested by the local police when she was doing drug business in Jingzhou. As a result, Zhang temporarily suspended his drug dealing business.

Earlier this year, Zhang felt it was favorable for him to make a good fortune since for a while few people have been caught by the police. He asked Li to provide a large quantity of drugs and planned to open a gambling and video gaming house under the cover of which he can do drug business more easily.

On May 22nd, Li came back to Jingzhou with a great deal of drugs and he later arrived in Yichang by bus. Getting this clue, the police began their preparation for catching him. When the bus entered Wujiagang District, Li attempted to get off the bus in advance with his luggage in order to avoid the police. He, however, was captured by the police waiting for him. 8 bags of “ice”(methamphetamine) totaling 8 kg were found in his luggage.

Li made a full confession of his crime and informed against his accomplice Zhang. Up to now, the case is under trial. (Reporter: Gong Changjun; correspondent: Tong Li)
