On June 16, a man borrowed money from his “girlfriend” and roused her suspicion. When the girl asked him to pay the money back, he first “harmed” himself and then fled by taxi. Xiling Police remind the citizens: be careful of online dating and verify the identity to help the police find the clues when encountering a similar situation.
In June this year, a 25-year-old girl Li (an assumed name) met a man online, the man told her that his name was Lu and he was 27 years old. He said that he worked in Yichang now but his hometown was Enshi. By chatting for a few days, Li became Lu’s girlfriend.
On June 10, Lu found Li and hoped that she could lend 1,000 RMB to him for family emergency. He guaranteed that he would pay back the money in a few days and Li gave him the money. But after a few days, Lu did not even mention it. So Li became suspicious and decided to urge him to pay back.
On the noon of June 16, Li and Lu met outside a supermarket on Yiling Avenue. When they met, Li asked Lu to pay the money back. Lu explained that he was too poor to pay it back, but Li didn’t believe it and insisted. Under desperation, Lu scratched his hand with his fruit knife. Li was so scared to see the blood flowing from his hand that she called 110. Seeing this, Lu escaped by taxi without any explanation, leaving Li alone right there.
Police from Yunji Police Station of Xiling Public Security Bureau rushed to the spot and learned what had happened. Following the direction of Lu’s escape, the police took her to look for Lu, but they couldn’t find him. The problem was that Li completely knew nothing about Lu.
