On the morning of August 6, pulled by a large loader, escorted by 16 traffic police and 6 police cars, a dock gate, the last bulky device of the Three Gorges Project, safely arrived at ship lift located at 185 working platform. Starting from heavy cargo wharf on the left bank of the Three Gorges Dam, it was a “journey” of 6 kilometers which lasted 1 hour 20 minutes.
Wang Jun, Secretary of Gezhouba Group Navigable Engineering Equipment Installation, introduced that the Three Gorges ship lift, which was on the left bank of the Three Gorges Project, was composed of 5 parts, including upstream approach channel, head bay, ship compartments chamber, tail-bay and downstream approach channel. With the maximum lifting height of 113 meters and total weight of about 15,500 tons, it was the largest climbing rack and pinion vertical ship lift in the world with the most difficult technology. The dock gate was a component part of upstream approach channel working door, functioning at water retaining and ship passing.
With the scale of 9.7 meters wide, 18 meters long, 2 meters high and 80 tons in weight, the dock gate is a super huge device. In order to ensure its smooth transportation to 185 working platform, 16 traffic police and 6 police cars were organized to Pert traffic, control road junctions, close roads along the way.
By 8:50 a.m. on the day, escorted by 6 police cars, the dock gate began to be pulled by a large loader. It safely arrived at the ship lift located at 185 working platform at 10:10 a.m. Wang Jun said, with the arrival of the dock gate, there would be no more bulky device which needed police escort during the construction of the Three Gorges Project.
The related officials of the Three Gorges Project Traffic Police Brigade introduced that the brigade had escorted more than 10,000 pieces of bulky devices since the first task in 1997, which were all absolutely safe.
Wang Jun introduced, the ship lift was expected to put into operation in 2015, by then, 3000 tons ship lockage within 40 minutes would be achieved. (Reporter: Gong Changjun, correspondent: Zhou Zhou, intern Huang Liangyu)
