The 32-year-old Ma was in the Three Gorges Hydropower Troops from year 1999 to 2011.12 years of military career let him regard Yichang as his second hometown. Ma left the army in 2011 and did not return to his ancestral home- Weinan City, Shaanxi Province. Instead, he settled in Yichang. In 2013, Ma invested 500,000 yuan to open the seafood restaurant in the pedestrian street and named the restaurant Old Comrades-in-arms Seafood in memory of the unforgettable army life.

Ma invited a number of old comrades to his store on Army Day in 2013, 200 comrades gathered here during 4 days, although the income was affected, Ma felt very happy.
Ma’s restaurant is getting better and better in 2014, he sold Shaanxi pasta from every morning to 2 p.m. and seafood feast from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m., Ma is also getting busier and busier. But Ma still decided to open the "comrades’ feast" to let the in-service or retired comrades to spend their holiday. For this purpose, Ma released the information at the beginning of July and invited his colleagues to Yichang. "The seafood must be fresh and wine must be unique." Ma went to the south to open up new seafood transport line and transferred the freshest seafood from Xiamen to Yichang, and he also bought beer from Qingdao. "The party will be much livelier than last year." Ma said that more than 80 comrades would participate in the “comrades’ feast ".
