Urban CPI Up 2.7% in August

  It is learnt yesterday from Yichang Investigation Team of the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) that in August, the urban CPI had a year-on-year growth of 2.7%, which was 0.3% less than that in July, and a month-on-month growth of 0.1%, which was 0.1 % more than that in July. Higher food, clothing, housing prices were the main contributors to the CPI growth.
  The cool and rainy climate in August is very favorable for the growth of local vegetables, and the increased and varied vegetable supplies from Changyang County and Xingshan County offered more choices to customers. There was a 2.7% month-on-month price decline for vegetables in the city, among which the fresh vegetables had a month-on-month price decline of 3.3%. Moreover, local fruit such as watermelons were fully supplied and fresh fruit saw a month-on-month price drop of 5% in August.
  After the price slump in the first half of this year, the pork price began to bounce back in July. The price rose 3.1% month on month in August. But it still suffered a 9.9% year-on-year drop.
  As it is the high tourist season, the air ticket price in August had a month-on-month growth of 18.8%. The 30% discount period on long-distance bus offered by Yichang Bus Company had come to its end and the bus ticket price had a month-on-month growth of 8.5%.
  In August, various charges concerning children had increased in different degrees, among which the preschool education fee had a month-on-month growth of 15.3% and other fees (drawing class) had a month-on-month growth of 9.4%. (Reporter: Pei Shujing; correspondent: Zou Jiao)
