TG Economic Urban Agglomerations Promotes Development of Yangtze River Economic Belt
2014-10-09 08:37:15

The Three Gorges Area, located at the joint part of middle and upper reaches of the Yangtze River Economic Belt, plays an important role in linking the middle reaches and upper reaches of the Yangtze River. To build Three Gorges Economic Urban Agglomeration in Yichang where the Three Gorges Project is located, will be vital in supporting and promoting the integrated development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt.
The Yangtze River Economic Belt will boost the economic growth in China.
The Yangtze River traverses eleven provinces and cities from west to east, and the flow area is 1.8 million square kilometers. The Yangtze drains one-fifth of the land area of China and its river basin is home to 0.6 billion people. In 2013, the total GDP is about 26 trillion yuan, which accounts for 41.2% of the total national GDP. At present, the world\'s most famous economic belts (Agglomerations) are as follows: the Northeast of the Atlantic Coastal Urban Belt around New York, the Five Great Lakes Urban Belt of North America, Pacific Coastal Urban Belt in Japan, Northwest European Urban Belt, Urban Belt and the Yangtze River Delta around London. With the world\'s most extensive coverage, the largest population and strongest influence, the most obvious giant economic belt will be formed if the Yangtze River Delta, Central Urban Agglomerations and Chengyu (Chengdu and Chongqing) Urban Agglomeration are linked together, taking the Yangtze River as the axis. It can be predicted that the booming from the east Yangtze River will promote the development of the west under the leadership of the central government.
The plan of Yangtze River Economic Belt began from 1980s. More than 30 years saw the development of Yangtze River Delta, Central Urban Agglomeration and the Chengyu Urban Agglomeration. The construction of the Three Gorges Urban Agglomeration arises to solve the problem of how to link the middle and the upper Yangtze River Economic Belt and fill the gap in the space structure of the Central Urban Agglomeration and Chengyu Urban Agglomeration.
The Three Gorges Urban Agglomeration is composed of cities along the Three Gorges of the Yangtze River Basin and other surrounding cities, including Yichang City, Enshi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture, Shennongjia Forestry District, Wanzhou Distict of Chongqing City, Jingzhou City and Jingmen City. The six members of the urban Agglomeration will be linked together to realize the coordinated development of the entire Yangtze River Economic Belt.
In the six members of the Agglomeration, Yichang City is located in the middle and developing as a modern megacity, which plays a leading role in the urban construction. The Three Gorges Urban Agglomeration will facilitate the transportation for the development of economy and society by relying on the golden waterway, Shanghai-Chengdu expressway, Yichang-Wanzhou railway, Zhengzhou-Chongqing Railway (planning) and the Three Gorges Airport. A broad area of nearly 80,000 square kilometers will provide a foundation for the development of the Three Gorges Urban Agglomeration. The world-famous Three Gorges, the national strategy of Yangtze River Economic Belt and the increasingly complete policy support system and service system will undoubtedly attract investors.
The members of Three Gorges Urban Agglomeration share the same customs and natural connections in economy, society and culture. In recent years, fruitful cooperation has been conducted among the members in transportation infrastructure, social undertakings and tourism industry, which laid a good foundation for cooperation in building Three Gorges Urban Agglomeration.
