On November 21st, Yichang witnessed the coming of former Chilean president, current Asia Pacific envoy Eduardo Frei Ruiz-Tagle and his delegation, who were warmly welcomed by Huang Chuping, member of the Standing Committee of Hubei Provincial Party Committee and Yichang Municipal Party Secretary.

On behalf Hubei Provincial Party Committee and Hubei government, Huang introduced current development of Yichang and Hubei province after a hearty reception. He said that Yichang, the sub-central city of Hubei province and world hydroelectric power city, had always been honored for its long history, rich culture, convenient transportation, pleasant environment and abundant resources. Chile, the earliest country in South America establishing diplomatic ties with People’s Republic of China, was also famous for its stable political environment, prosperous economy and colorful culture, and has established a rapid and intensified trade connections with Hubei Province and Yichang city in particular, which resulted in an continuously increasing trade volume at present and a great potentiality for the future. He hoped that the delegation could know more about Yichang, enhance mutual understanding and cooperation, and provide more opportunities for economic and cultural communication between two sectors so as to realize common development and prosperity.

Eduardo Frei said Hubei had signed a friendly protocol with Región del Bío-Bío of Chile and had set a new platform for communication and cooperation between China and Chile.
