According to the Exchange Conference of Subjects Research Results of Ten Major Reform held by Department of Housing Management of Yichang on November 3rd, Yichang will make some policy adjustments this year concerning "eliminating affordable housing and accelerating the public rental housing”, which will halt new approval of the affordable housing and ensure public rental housing supply.
It is reported that since Yichang started the project of standardizing the affordable housing in 2005, about 13,000 affordable housing, including Minxin Home in Yichang, Songyi Community in Yidu City and Spring & Autumn Community in Yiling District have been built. Currently the construction has helped provide shelter for 11,000 low-and-middle-income needy families in total. From this year, the affordable housing will quit the stage officially, and the public rental housing will be promoted in a rapid speed. It is required that public rental housing should account for 5% of area in the new commercial residential buildings construction. Those low-rent housing which have been under construction or have not been allocated will be arranged as public rental housing under whole management. The government will give priority to those who needed the low-rent housing and still face the problems, and allocate the remaining by the standard of public rental housing allocation.
Till September this year, there are in total 58,000 public rental housing under construction (25,000 low-rent housing included), of which 47,000 have been nearly completed and 34,000 have been allocated (including 22,000 low-rent housing ).
