The promotion meeting themed irrigation and water conservancy projects & drinking water safety in rural areas of Yichang City is held on Dec 12. Vice Mayor Mr. Wang Guobin attends the meeting and gives a talk.

　　The City\'s overall goals in this winter and the coming spring period set at the meeting are as follows: To raise all kinds of water conservancy construction funds as much as two billion yuan, to construct as many as 4,500 water source projects, to complete 40 km. long river course regulations, to dredge 2,000 km. long river channel, to increase, restore and improve 32,947 acre  irrigation areas, to increase 32,974 acre water-saving irrigation areas with stable yields despite drought or excessive rain, and to bring 50 square kilometers area’s soil erosion under control.

　　It is pointed out at the meeting that the City’s agricultural specialty industries have developed rapidly, farmers’ incomes have been increasing continuously and the agricultural and rural work maintains a sound momentum. But some prominent problems still exist in the water construction projects, which require the enhancement of sense of responsibility and urgency of the departments at different levels; seven big projects including drinking water safety, comprehensive river treatments and farmland irrigation and drainage should be prioritized. It is also necessary to organize irrigation and water conservancy projects carefully and put drinking water safety issues in rural areas at the top of the agenda.

　　Wang requires that departments at different levels should strengthen their leadership, clarify their tasks, make greater efforts to strengthen construction management so that joint forces are to be formed in keeping drinking water safety in rural areas and all residents there have an access to clean drinking water; they should govern water conservancy construction well to improve their ability in fighting against and alleviating agricultural disasters; they should lay stress on water conservancy and protection to strengthen the unified water resources management; they should deepen water reform and promote institutional  innovations constantly; they should take measures to ensure that water conservancy construction can make substantial achievements.

　　At the meeting, five exemplary units, which include Zhijiang County-level City, Yidu City, Yuan\'an County, Zigui County and Yiling District are praised for the notable achievements that they made in terms of irrigation and water conservancy construction during the year of 2013 and 2014. Representatives of Zigui County, Yidu City, and Zhijiang City are invited to share their experiences at the meeting. Before the meeting, participants went to Zigui County and visited Qu Yuan Town’s ecological irrigation areas, Shazhenxi Town’s Majiaba efficient water-saving projects, etc.
