With the torrential Yangtze River, the towering Three Gorges Dam and the ancient mysterious Ba and Chu culture, Yichang has attracted tourists from home and abroad with its picturesque sceneries.
　　Since the construction of the Three Gorges Project in 1994, the past 20 years has witnessed Yichang, a city born for water, living its dream to be a “world-famous hydroelectric tourism city” with its abundant water.
　　A jade belt across the still water
　　The Three Gorges Dam is like a jade belt linking the high gorges in misty winter with torrential river turning into a lake as smooth as a mirror with slight waves among the overlapping mountains.
　　Li Zhenyong, deputy general manager of Yangtze River Three Gorges Tourism Development Co., LTD, introduced that since the construction started on December 14th 1994, numerous tourists have been attracted to this zone by its reputation.
　　Statistics show that the Three Gorges Dam tourism zone, as the first batch of national 5A level tourism attractions and one of the first batch of national industrial tourism models, has about 1.8 million visitors annually and by the end of 2013, has received tourists home and abroad for over 15 million .
　　On September 24th this year, an announcement was made in a press conference jointly held by China Three Gorges Corporation and Yichang Government that the Three Gorges Dam tourist attractions, starting an age of free tourism to Chinese tourists from September 25th. 
　　Wang Yinghua, deputy mayor of Yichang city, said that free tourism would improve the influence of Three Gorges tourism and would have a great practical significance in Yichang’s construction of “world-famous hydroelectric tourism city”.
　　In the first “golden week” in National Day after the introduction of the new rule, the Three Gorges Dam tourism zone was filled with tourists and received accumulated 240,000 tourists. It hit the record of the single-day reception capacity and the total reception capacity.     
　　After the seven-day holiday, the number of tourists visiting the Three Gorges Dam still kept high. The reporter was told by Li Zhenyong that since the free admission, the tourist numbers kept about 40% to 50% increase compared to the same period.
　　People besides the River and Gorges
　　Three Gorges Tribe, which is adjacent to the Three Gorges Dam, is another 5A level scenic spot surrounded by mountains and water. It features white walls, grey tile and stone paths, small bridges over the flowing streams and stilted buildings in Tu style.
　　Wupeng Boat berthed at the foot of the Dengying Gorge, fishermen leisurely fishing in rivulet and the folklore performance of “crying for marriage” in Tu family village are all eye-catching sceneries.
　　“This year we have received nearly 210 million visitors, up almost 23 percent year on year." According to Wen Bolin, the assistant president of Three Gorges Dam Tourism Development Group, the construction of the Three Gorges Project not only enhances the popularity of Yichang, but also leads to the development of the surrounding scenic spots, which can be seen more clearly after the dam is free to the public, with housands of visitors following. In Zigui County, known as The First County of the Three Gorges area, Qu Yuan Cultural Tourism Zone is only about 600 meters straight away from the Three Gorges Dam, and it has been awarded recently the national 5A-class tourist scenic spot. Wang Gang, the director general of Zigui County Cultural Tourism Bureau said that many tourists came here after they visited the Three Gorges Dam.
　　According to Yichang City Tourism Bureau, taking as an example the first Golden Week after the free admission of the Three Gorges Dam Tourism Zone, Yichang has received in total 4,660,900 visitors, an increase of 29.29% and has gained total tourism revenue of 2.74 billion Yuan, an increase of 33.27%, both of which have set a new record.
　　The radiating effect of the Dam zone on surrounding scenic spots and its pulling effect on the construction of a World Famous Hydroelectric Tourism City have been fully demonstrated.

　　The construction of the Three Gorges Project and Free Admission of Three Gorges Dam Tourism Zone directly benefit the surrounding scenic spots and provide more opportunities for other counties in Yichang over the process of constructing the World Famous Hydroelectric Tourism City.

　　The 400,000 meters long Qingjiang River is as picturesque as a gallery, and three-eighths of that belongs to Changyang County. Taking cultural tourism as a strategic pillar industry, its continuous growth has made Batu Culture well-known at home and abroad.
　　There are many other examples to list out.
　　Dream has come true in 20 years. Yichang has changed gradually into a World Famous Hydroelectric Tourism City.
