In the past, the people strived to live; at present, people are ‘striving for a good environment’, so we absolutely cannot pursue temporary economic gain at the loss of environment.” Ma Xuming, Mayor of Yichang City, Hubei Province, said that Yichang, where Three Gorges Dam area is located, will launch the “Green Water Program” in 2015 in order to strengthen eco-environment protection work.

　　According to the requirement of the “Green Water Program”, Yichang government will solidify and intensify the protection of centralized drinking water source, focus on promoting the comprehensive improvement of Shahe River and eastern tributary of Huangbohe River, as well as make overall plans to concentrate on the management work of other watersheds and medium or small rivers. At the same time, Yichang government will accelerate the implementation of water pollution prevention project of the Three Gorges Reservoir Area and Yichang section of the Yangtze River, strengthen the construction of urban sewage collection pipe network and the governance of the sewage outlet along the Yangtze River. Besides, Yichang government will accelerate the construction of urban sewage treatment plants and the associated sewerage pipe network in some places such as Shawan County and Tianjiahe Area as well as upgrade 500 km of sub-irrigation system.

　　It is learned that in addition to the “Green Water Program”, Yichang government will also launch the "Program of Urban Governance", the "Program of Cleaning the Air" and the "Program of Planting Green Vegetation" coordinately in 2015. Meanwhile, by the opportunity of building Yichang into a pioneer demonstration area of ecological progress and a state-level ecological garden city, the general environment planning of Yichang City should be implemented strictly and the plan of constructing a "Green Yichang" should be promoted effectively.
