Recently the Yichang government released the Outline of Yichang Forestry Bureau’s Plan of Promoting the Construction of Ecological Progress (2014-2020), which estimates that by the year 2020, the city\'s forest land area will have been no less than 1,380,400 hectares and the forest area no less than 1,231,600 hectares. It is also estimated that the area of forestry nature reserves will have been no less than 191,000 hectares and the biodiversity and the existing endangered wild animals and plants will have been adequately protected by then.

　　Yichang government will shoulder the general task of constructing the protective screen of ecological security of the Three Gorges Dam Area and promoting the farmers to become rich while maintain a sound environment, and put forth effort to construct the forestry ecological progress system and accelerate the greening and beautifying program, centering on the construction of “Green Yichang”. Moreover, Yichang Government will gradually construct five ecological function areas, including the Ecological Function Area for Water and Soil Conservation in the Three Gorge Dam Area, the Juzhanghe River Basin, Huangbaihe River Basin and Qingjiang River Basin Wetland Ecological Function Area, the Plain Farmland Shelterbelt Ecological Function Area, the Biodiversity Ecological Function Area and the Suburban Ecological Function Area for Travel and Leisure.

　　In addition, Yichang Government will strengthen the construction of demonstration bases of ecological culture education based on the forest parks, nature reserves and wetland parks. It is estimated that by the year 2020, 5 demonstration bases of ecological culture education, including 2 at national level and 3 at provincial level, will have been constructed and the protection rate of the ancient and famous trees under first-class state protection on list in Yichang City will have reached 100%.
