CPI Up 2.2% in 2014
2015-02-09 10:15:01

According to Yichang Investigation Team of National Bureau of Statistics, the consumer price index (CPI) of the urban area rose 2.2% and the increase declined 1.1% in 2014 from the same period of a year ago. Overall level of commodity retail price rose 1% and its increase declined 0.7% from the same period of a year ago.
Statistical data showed that the increase of food price ranked the first. Food price in urban area rose 3% year on year from January to December which pulled CPI up to 1.04% from the same period of a year ago.
According to a survey, the main factors of the rising food price are: first, the significant rise of fresh fruit price. Its price continued to rise from January to April for its high market demand during the Spring Festival season. Thus from May to June fruit from southern China such as banana brought about the overall rise of fruit price including apple, watermelon and orange, since the import of fruits from Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam and some other countries declined affected by the unrest of Southeast Asia. Second, the rise of liquid milk and dairy product price from January to December. Since the second half of 2013, the upward trend of dairy product price has begun to take shape as a result of the shortage of milk in the domestic which led to the serious shortage of market supply and the rise of the costs of diary farming. Third, the rise of the price of dining out influenced by the price rise of raw materials such as vegetables and the increase of house rent and labor cost.
In the meantime, the decline of the price of fresh vegetables and pork pulled down the year-on-year increase amount of food price compared to the same period of 2013. (Reporter: Pei Shujing, correspondent: Zou Jiao)
