As the first day to further open the road on restricted areas of the Three Gorges Project (Three Gorges Road) to the tourists, March 1st saw the smooth traffic flow on the Three Gorges Road. It is learned from the concerned department that from 7:00am to 5:00pm, 12755 vehicles had moved in and out of the Three Gorges Accommodation Road, and 4000 tourists had gone for Three Gorges Dam, among which 3000 person-times were self-driving travel. In addition, though small peak arrived at 9:30—11:00 in the morning, the vehicle volume was roughly equal with the usual holidays. Without traffic jam in large area or any traffic accident, all the registration points ran orderly.
　　It was reported that small “interludes” still existed despite of the overall smoothness. For those self-driving tourists, some drivers misunderstood the concept of "open and free" and wrongly considered that they could go through Three Gorges Accommodation Road directly without any formalities. Finally, they had to go back to registration points for the formalities after being informed. On that day, among the 5 publically announced registration points (test run), Triangle Reception Point of Three Gorges Dam Tourist Area has not opened the relevant business of certificating through-pass temporarily, and people in Feng Jia Wan Checkpoint of Three Gorges Road has increased and queued for registration formalities, but Feng Jia Wan Checkpoint timely opened two windows so that car owners could quickly fulfill the relevant formalities, thus avoiding long time waiting and the retention of people and cars.
　　Registration and security check
　　To guarantee road smoothness and traffic safety, all Traffic Police Brigade staff of the Three Gorges Dam Area was set out yesterday to strengthen patrols on checkpoints and jurisdiction pavements. They also reminded the public that with the further opening of the Three Gorges Accommodation Road, transit vehicles must get registration and security checks in accordance with the regulations. Any vehicle without registration record/card or security check is not permitted on the road of Three Gorges Hub restricted areas.
　　Non-motor vehicles, tractors, motorcycles, wheeled special machinery cars, small-scaled and micro minivans, articulated buses, trailers, coach cars and dangerous-goods-transportation vehicles, etc. are prohibited on Three Gorges Accommodation Road; trucks, except medium-sized and below-medium-sized trucks which transport production and living material for the surrounding areas of Three Gorges Hub security zone, are also prohibited.
　　To fulfill the entry registration certificate, valid driver\'s license, driving license and vehicle insurance shall be carried.
　　5 registration points have been set up: Triangle Reception Point of Three Gorges Dam Tourist Area, Feng Jia Wan Checkpoint of Three Gorges Accommodation Road, Zhu Jia Wan Checkpoint of Three Gorges Hub security zone, Dai Shi Checkpoint of Three Gorges Hub security zone, Certification Office of Three Gorges Hub Security Department.
　　The valid period of the issued registration certificate is two days. To lengthen it, you can reapply for registration in the above points.
　　Transit attentions prompted by Three Gorges Dam Area traffic police:
　　For the implementation of "open and free", the traffic flow of the dam area will increase accordingly. To strengthen the traffic security management of Three Gorges restricted area road and improve the access rate, combined measures will be taken to limit the hourly speed of vehicles on the road of restricted areas such as interval velocity, flow velocity and fixed velocity measuring. For the cars running in the tunnels, in accident-intensive areas and in dangerous sections, the limit speed is 60 km/h; outside tunnels, 80 km/h; on the road of the dam area, 60 km/h. For other vehicles, they should strictly follow the speed limit tables as well when driving.
　　Three Gorges Dam Area traffic police tips: with bi-directional four lanes and fully-enclosed overpasses, Three Gorges Accommodation Road is not an expressway but  a quasi first-class mountainous highway specifically built for the construction of Three Gorges Project. In addition, the bridge-and-tunnel-intensive highway has no emergency channel, so particular attention is needed when driving on it. "Speeding, overcrowding, overload and fatigue driving" are strictly prohibited; enough distance should be kept between vehicles. When in bad weather, warning light should be kept on.
