Urban area of Yichang has encountered the coldest day today since spring came. Right at the parking lot of No.1 branch office, Yichang Public Transport Group, only 15-minute away from Yichang East Railway Station, off-work bus drivers hurried to practice the operating procedure of driving into BRT platforms, ensuring that they could successfully pass BRT examination in the mid-April.

    At the parking lot, the staff of the branch office have simulated the whole paths in proportion with 1:1 by using security isolation. There are two longer signal poles in two different places with a spacing with the same length of BRT. Yan Dong, a team leader of the company, said: “This is the safety door of the platform and that one tied with a plastic bottle is a simulation of platform column.”

     No.1 bus driver Guo Yong has already sit into a 12-meter long training bus. Though this was not the real bus for BRT, he was still very careful with every process including starting, making turns, linear accelerating, slowing down and stopping. As he said: “I have gotten off work early at 14:00 and come here for practice soon after having lunch. The test will come a week later, so I have to hurry up.  ”

    The reference objects were small and it was hard to judge the distance between the bus and the objects; therefore, Guo was confronted with a few problems when driving into the platform. However, after more tries, he finally found the key to make the front door alignment with the safety door by observing the space between the bus door and the signal pole. 

     Guo added: “For common buses, drivers often consciously turn the steering wheel to the left, to avoid the passengers rushing into the bus when pulling in. But it is to adverse direction when the buses pull into BRT platforms, only to reduce the spacing between the bus and the platform, thus protecting passengers from missing their steps”.

     Pei Jie, branch office manager of the company, introduced that with the coming of the BRT test run, their branch has trained 200 bus drivers early since March 10. In the middle of this month, the company will form a special group for testing BRT drivers, who must be capable of accurately pulling in the bus into BRT platform. And flameouts, unstable stops, hitting the brakes in a sudden or the signal pole occur, the driver will get deducted points.  (Reporter: Yan Xiaodong; correspondent: Huang Xiujuan)
